A Valentine's Day get-away at a bed and breakfast
78A Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to celebrate Valentine's Day. My Inn is always filled for Valentine's Day. I've seen a lot creative ways that couples celebrate. Of course, we are here to make their week-end as special as possible. It really doesn't cost an arm and a leg, if you pick the right place.
It's amazing what some of my guests come up with to surprise their partners. Everything from champagne served in glasses engraved with romantic messages, to home-made chocolate dipped strawberries, to rose petals strewn across the room from the door to the bed. This last idea was thought up by a nice young man for his wife of one year.
Occasionally, someone will want to surprise their other half with the destination and wont tell them where they're being taken. They'll come by ahead of time, get the key to the room, later drive up to our place and just open the door to our warm intimate and romantic Victorian setting.
We always have soft music playing, maybe Chopin or Mozart, to create a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. The couple will walk in and one of them will be completely speechless, not knowing where they are or what is going on.
In utter amazement, they will be lead to a lovely Victorian room with four-poster bed where a vase of beautiful red roses is sitting on a Queen Anne bedside table. Looking around the room, with its restored polished wooden floors covered with oriental rugs and its antique furnishings, they will see a bottle of Champagne icing in a lovely silver bucket, a cheese and fruit tray, and a crystal dish filled with chocolate truffles or chocolate covered strawberries.
I know what you're thinking. This about to be a very expensive week-end. But, really, it's not. We love to do romantic week-ends and we make these packages quite reasonable. We book a lot of them and make up for the low price in quantity of packages. Many of the couples that do come for Valentine's Day tell me that they set aside a little each week before they come. They use this time as a mini-vacation and budget it in for the year.
Everyone needs a break now and then.....a time to kick back and relax. How relaxing is it to soak in a tub of luxurious bubbles, or sip a glass of wine in front of a beautiful art deco fireplace? How about falling asleep in a huge, 4-poster, Victorian bed, snuggled under crisp, white luxury sheets and down comforter? Then, waking in the morning to the aroma of fresh baked muffins or bread, with the anticipation of a perfect day of sight seeing or just hanging out?
After a good night's sleep, you come downstairs to breakfast in our beautiful French Toile dining room. Let us pamper you with steaming cups of fresh brewed, gourmet coffee or tea. Maybe try one of our Belgium waffles with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, or a delicious Spinach-herb Quiche. Don't get up!! Just sit and relax and imagine all the fun things you're going to do today!
Believe me, what ever amount of money you spend on this type of romantic get away, you will never forget it.
- HubMob Weekly Topic : Romance
It took a separation from my usually non-romantic husband to squeeze the sentiments out of him. We had been married about three years and had two beautiful children when I left him behind for a couple of months. No we were not fighting or anything like that. I had a health issue that I needed to check out. We lived in a small South Pacific Island Kingdom. I had given birth to our little son in Tonga, but had complications. My parents came to visit and I returned to stay with them for a while. http://hubpages.com/hub/He-Wrote-Me-a-Love-Song Please consider my hub for this weekly topic of Romance. Alekhouse - A great Hub and an Idea my Zena and I did many times. For a romantic Getaway, or as she would say "A Dirty Little Weekend" Te He Te He (Giggles hers). You have a wonderful looking B&B I'll bet you do a great job of pampering your guests. Thanks!
Oh sigh...I'm seeing hearts and bubbles bursting in my mind already. That sounds SO romantic and your place is so lovely! Actually Bob and I have always done that and not just for Valentine's Day or as I laughingly call it VD (too many years working in urology offices!) That is the key to love and life I think - keeping it special and taking the time out to do those kinds of things together. Looks like you are going to be spoiling some folks really, really well. Kudos to you as there is not a more special treat for a couple! Audrey
How beautiful, enjoyed looking at the pictures, the rooms are gorgeous! Sigh, wish I could get away, but business keeps us here.
That sounds very nice. I should take myself there. Nice hub. Thanks
What a beautiful place. It looks and sounds so inviting!
Your B&B looks stunning, Alek! Thanks for sharing the pix. There are some lovely B&Bs around here also. Love to get away for a week end.
Love and peace
Tony
Sounds like a lovely dream come true.
Alek I'm so pleased to finally get a glimpse at your wonderful B&B. Chopin and Mozart...excellent. It's really exceptional and I don't doubt you are a gracious host. I do hope to visit one day.
I am enjoying the Valentine's Day hubs! I can only imagine how marvelous it is to have a stay at a bed and breakfast--and with reading your hub makes me all the more curious as to how wonderful that experience would be! Thanks for the lovely visit here!
Your bed and breakfast sounds like the perfect get away for Valentine's Day. I am going to twitter your article so people looking for Valentine's day trips can read more about your establishment :).
I definitely would love to if I can afford the trip in the near future :).
Just reading about it makes me wish my hubby would do something like that! But this valentines we are destined to be apart. He's on a TD to a different city. What lousy timing.
Hi alekhouse, your B & B is what I had in mind in the romantic weekend getaway portion of my hub on Valentine's Day, so I linked it to this hub of yours.
I hope to get a chance to visit your inn in the near future. Regards, Papa Sez
Hello alekhouse,
Might as well tow the link line planned by Papa Sez here. I had a nice read, gorgeous inn. Thanks.
Very interesting! Where is/was this B&B. You talked me into a visit, but then reality sets in. :)
How fun, exciting and good to know! I'll keep this in mind! Good luck with your book, I'm sure it will be interesting.
Wow I would love to come visit!! I don't have the option for romantic weekends very often and this just sounds beautiful! It also sounds like you take great pride in what you do and that is also impressive!
Beautiful photos! A B+B is a wonderful getaway idea for Valentine's Day. My husband and I don't have any big plans this year, but I'll have to keep this in mind in the future.

Wow, alekhouse. I had no idea that you own a B & B! I lived for the better part of a decade in the Hudson Valley Region of New York State and it's absolutely crawling with B & B's. Yes, I must agree wholeheartedly that spending a weekend in one with our better-halves is a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing this. I hope you "benefit" from writing this as well ;)
